Had a great time visiting Port Royal and playing a round of golf. The staff was incredible and the course was very well maintained. Since we played in the summer, I definitely wish there was more shade but it was a very fair course design. I would return to play this course again next year.
Beautiful venue for a wedding but whoohee the price for one drink and one draft beer was $50! Bring ya credit card folks! Lots of room for guests and beautiful grounds for the wedding itself. Fireplace and outdoor seating plus indoor seating and a few private rooms.
Recently played Port Royal. As we parked at bag drop, Brian immediately arrived with a cart and take care of our bags. Great guy and makes you feel welcome as soon as exiting your vehicle. I decided to make a quick stop at the bar for a few beverages to loosen up. No time to hit balls at the range. The young lady bartender is very friendly and pleasant. The one item that is not pleasant is the sticker shock at the bar. I ordered 3 High Noon beverages and the total was something like $38.75, so almost $13 per can. We head to the Barony course and just leaving the first tee box is four carts carrying six golf bags. We immediately realized that playing behind this group would not adhere to our time management, so we headed to the Robbers course. There were six to eight guys standing around trying to determine teams for an afternoon outing. They were nice enough to allow us to tee off in front of them. This is the last we saw of them for the round. After about six holes our threesome caught a twosome and we had a single bearing down on us from behind. We originally planned to wave the single through but realized he would only be stuck between the twosome and our group, so we asked if he wanted to join us. Nice guy and joined us until the 14th hole I believe. He had played 36 holes already and had enough for one day. I normally play the blue tees, but this day the two friends that I played golf with decide to play from the whites. Due to multiple surgeries during the last several years, I have not played in three years and ended up very happy to play from the white tees. It had rained earlier about 3 hours earlier and had dumped at least two inches of water onto Hilton Head Island and the course. The golf course drained so well that there was very little standing water, so not cart path only. It is a fun course to play except for a few gimmicky holes that required being shoved into a tight area. The 90 degree dogleg right or left type of holes. Greens are small, pretty fast, but none of use could determine the break. If there was break, it was very little, so when in doubt, hit the putt firm and straight. At the end of the round Brian was still working, cleaned up our clubs and placed them on the rack for pick up. Overall and enjoyable round of golf and look forward to returning
