I gave this course a great review (4 star) as you can tell by the pictures. But.... the update is going to be honest. I used to play here 2 times a week. Was never a member but nevertheless I enjoyed being one of the regular public golfers. I haven't played it in 5 months and it's primarily to them letting the courses go. I don't know if they're short staffed or if all their money is going into the new clubhouse/driving range. But both courses are struggling in my eyes. They're hardly maintained and I can't remember the last time the entire course was properly mowed. Long fairways and tee boxes. The debris from the hurricane that occurred over a year ago is still laying around. The golf carts are out of date and noisy and ride like a wagon. The greens are bumpy and slow. The green fees are high (have gone up) and how can they honestly feel comfortable charging $110 for tradition with all those little details? $75 for cypress and good luck getting a golf round done in 6 hours at any given time. Especially on weekends. 6 hour minimum! Marshals are on edge because they believe they own the course. Same with some of the "pros." Those guys are ready to yell at you at any given second and the first words out of their mouth is "i am the pro out here.... you can't do this..." (minus Tyrell) Tyrell is a great instructor and goes about his work in a very professional manner. I don't know him personally but I can tell he isn't like the others. Back to the course: On a positive note i hope that all their efforts are being put into the new facilities and are planning to have a championship course in the future. The new range is good and the mats are great. The staff when checking in are also cool dues (Jacob and Garcia). I hope great things are in their future but as of now I will lower my star rating from 4 to 3. Good luck cypresswood and I hope yal get better. I still love yal #they have a Mexican open qualifier coming up and I'm curious to see what shape it will be in that week.
Visiting from San Antonio, had planned on playing two other courses in town. But at the last moment I noticed they had two 18-hole courses here. Change my plans and ended up at Cypresswood. Played the Tradition course on Monday 10/9/23. Played Cypress on Tuesday 10/10/23. Both courses were in excellent shape. Tradition was the more scenic and a little bit more wide open course. It did have sand traps right where my ball with land unfortunately. Greens were in great shape fairways tee boxes everything really looking good after all the heat we've had here in South Texas. Cypress course was a little more narrow and you had to be careful with your shot keep it in the middle. Again the greens and fair ways were in excellent shape. Friendly staff starting with the gentleman inside checking you in the starters the marshals the cart girls. Just a really good experience at this facility. Fully stocked pro shop with rental clubs available if needed. Good-sized driving range and putting green. Definitely recommend Cypresswood Golf club
Very Nice Course, Played both Cypress and Tradition. It's undergoing some construction, new clubhouse is coming, and the 1st hole (par 5 ) on cypress was shortened to a par 4. Tradition is in better shape. Cypress was a little tighter, but tradition I felt was a little more challenging. Winter conditions granted, but I felt the greens on tradition were rolling much nicer. Par 3s on both were real pretty holes. Lastly the gentleman I dealt with in the clubhouse (I think it was Sean) was a rockstar. I would 100% recommend this course.
