It’s honestly a shame what golf in East Texas has turned into. I hate to say it, but you're genuinely better off at Pine Springs if you're look to play here— and that alone should tell you something. If you're an avid golfer that lives in East Texas who values their time and their hard-earned money, do yourself a favor and start looking into a country club membership. The local public course options and the level of service around here are an absolute joke. After my experience today at Oakhurst, I’ve seriously started questioning whether trying to golf in East Texas is even worth the effort anymore. This particular course itself isn’t the worst I’ve played — but the snail-paced play, overpriced greens fees, and the STAFF who clearly don’t care, keeping your $60 in your wallet starts to feel like the best shot you’ll take all day. Learn from my mistake. Skip this dump and play literally anywhere else... AKA Pine Springs.
One of the Worst Golf Course Experiences I've Ever Had – Oakhurst Should Be Embarrassed I had a 7:08 AM tee time at Oakhurst and was off as a single. I was absolutely dialed in—only two over after the front nine—and on pace for one of the best rounds of my life. That is, until the absolute clown show that is Oakhurst’s course management stepped in to ruin everything. At hole 7, the marshall stops me and says I can’t go off the back nine yet because a tournament is about to tee off on 10. Okay, fine—I get it, tournaments happen. But here’s where the incompetence really kicks in: I’m told to wait in the parking lot for half an hour. No warning when I booked. No heads-up at the starter. Nothing. So I wait. 30 minutes go by. I get the green light to tee off on 10, but the tournament group is still standing on the 10th green. By the time I get to hole 11, I’ve been waiting 23 minutes and these guys still haven’t even putted. At that point, I’d had enough. I head to the clubhouse to at least get a refund for the back nine since the round was now completely blown. And what do they tell me? > “Oh yeah, that’s our fault… we shouldn’t have let a single tee off this morning.” Then they hand me $15—as if that somehow makes things right. Let’s break this down: 18 holes is $60 9 holes is $45 They give me $15 back, like we’re “even” Except they conveniently forget that I didn’t choose to play 9—they botched the scheduling, ruined my round, and then offered the bare minimum refund like I should be grateful. Bottom line: this place is a disaster. Completely mismanaged. No respect for the players, no accountability for screwing up a paying customer’s round, and clearly no idea how to run a golf operation. I should’ve gotten at least half my round refunded—if not the whole thing, given the way they mishandled everything. Avoid Oakhurst unless you enjoy waiting around, being jerked around, and getting nickel-and-dimed by a staff that doesn’t care.
This course is a decent one. The tee boxes were in great shape, the fairways were good, but the greens could use a little work. The course is quite expensive for an average course but it does offer a challenge. The staff were very friendly and helpful with finding hole 1 and 10. The tee box numbers are labeled clearly and there is water available all over the course.
