What people say about (Johnny Goodman Golf Course)

Steven Wilkie

I’m not one to post on these but I will say I went to golf here for a friend’s birthday. First time golfing this year and in the past have never had problems. Ever. Until this past Sunday when four of us golfing were getting constantly harassed by the yard marshal for pace of play. Coming up to us between holes and after tee offs telling us to hurry up. He approached our group of four about 4-5 times within the front 9 holes and was delaying our pace of play being hypocritical about pace of play stopping us himself. Approached the front desk about this situation and were incompetent to deal with especially when we had to skip holes to try and appease there pace of play. They would not also give us a refund for the back 9 despite the harassment. Would not recommend golfing here especially if you are also trying to bring in new golfers to learn the game and have a good time. This is NOT the place for that and it sucks because I really did used to like this course. Never been harassed so much by a yard Marshal before in my life and we were playing reasonable pace and playing best ball. Needless to say I will not be going back to Goodman again.

For a city course, it's kept in good condition. The holes are challenging and has a couple nice water features. Kevin in the pro shop is great and always takes care of us.

Went to play 18 on a Sunday with a close friend for his birthday. His wife was a first time golfer but, still playing fairly well. While we made our best efforts to play quickly & we’re never actually caught up to by the group behind us the Marshall began watching us a stuck around for three holes at one point. When my friends wife started to feel self conscious with an older gentleman focused on her for so long we approached the Marshall an asked if everything was ok with our play? He explained that we needed to pick up the pace. We explained the situation an after an extensive conversation offered to skip a hole to create further distance from us & the group behind. We did so, but were then harassed again about 15 minutes later while chipping on the very next hole. We skipped another hole played the 9th an went into the clubhouse for snacks and drinks. It was an extremely hot day. On the way out we were met by the golf course Sunday manager, the Marshall & 2 other employees. We explained the situation extensively and asked for a partial refund as we really felt uncomfortable at this point. After 20-30 minutes we just said we would skip 2 more holes and get back to it. As the only thing offered was a printed rain check receipt. We immediately started to head off but a few moments in decided that at that point we were no longer enjoying ourselves an would just leave. I called into the clubhouse to ask for a refund again. As the 4 of us really never wanted to play this course in the future. I Went inside to further explain, at which point the manager began to crack jokes about the situation. The whole ordeal totaled about two and a half hours an hour of which we had spent dealing with the manager an Marshall. We were never actually caught up to by any group behind us, outside of at the clubhouse during the discussion with the manager. I held onto the receipts for a record but would honestly they are worthless at this point. Just avoid this course in general. There are plenty of other less poorly maintained courses where you will be treated quite a bit better. Not sure 0 stars registers as a review as, I’ve never left a bad review for anything. I gave 1 so that I was sure this would appear as a warning to others.
