What people say about (Westwynd Golf Course)

RDL 213

Westwynd is a fine golf course. Some holes are a little gimmicky, but their policy of no rainchecks (clearly disclosed) is too strict. I was forced to play today, or lose $320. But the fairways had standing water at their high spots and the bunkers were literal ponds. Any ball that found a bunker was lost because they were so deep and you could not see in them. The tee sheet was supposedly full, but the course was mostly empty. This is an apparent shortfall of the semi-private model because the members can book tee times every day and not show up without penalty. But non-members who book online better pray for good weather or you’re out your full freight. Also, they do not have any food at their “past halfway” shack so the earliest you could grab a bite would be the 16th hole. I was looking forward to the round, but their inflexible policies make it unlikely I’ll ever go back. The pictures below were the best of the bunkers all day.

First class golf! Played by myself on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I arrived a little early and the starter let me take advantage of a hole in the tee sheet which allowed me to play at an ideal pace to take in the views and use some strategy which this course certainly requires. I came into the round with some uncertainty based on several reviews but once I got rolling I had a highly challenging yet enjoyable round. The course is manicured and the greens rolled true. A couple of the tee boxes were beat up but that's to be expected this late in the season and when folks don't fill their divots. (Which is easy to do here with all the fill sand provided) The only time the starter/ranger "hounded" me was to return my sand wedge that I had left behind a few holes prior! Everyone I encountered was kind and helpful. Although green fees are a bit on the steep side they are not out of line given the overall top notch experience that I had here. My new favorite course within 30 minutes drive of my home.

I’d give this course a better rating if their employee didn’t steal my range finder. Called the manager 30 minuets after my round and he didn’t help the situation at all. All that aside, tee boxes are trash, greens are beaten up and no signs of maintenance towards it. Charging 70 dollars a round. I won’t be back.
