Played at Heron Bay during our trip to Georgia. Rained all day the day before so the course was wet and cart path only. First time playing here and would have liked better conditions. The course was fantastic! Loved it! The club house is beautiful and the pro shop is well stocked. We had the first tee time and the woman behind the counter couldn't have been any friendlier. Enjoyed talking with her. The course was in great shape even with the amount of rain the day before. we play lift, clean and place so it helped with the conditions. The fairways were in good condition. Not real wide at times and tree lined. Plenty of bunkers to take into consideration protecting the greens. Water came into play a few times as well. Lots of elevation changes and views! The greens were not flat with plenty of ridges and slopes to contend with. Some of the tee boxes could have used a little TLC but overall good condition. The course winds through a housing division so there is a some driving at times between holes. All in all I am definitely coming back to Georgia just to play this course under better weather! If you want a good challenge and fun course this is the one to play!

As you can see from my profile I don’t leave many reviews. Zero to be exact but I’ve played golf once a week religiously the last three years here in Georgia. We’ve got a lot of nice courses. My usual courses are Ashton hills, bear creek, hickory hill and Cherokee run but I play all over just to keep it fun. Ran across a weekday round for 19.99 on gold now and figured I’d try it out. I cannot say enough good things about this course and the community. The pro shop employee was 100% British. I chatted with Luke for about 5 minutes and the guy actually enjoyed talking about the course and golf in general which isn’t easy to do at 12:50 on a weekday. I imagine he has that same conversation a couple dozen times a week. Call me stupid if you want but something about a British guy telling you to have a good round feels like the pga itself just gave you their personal blessing. They had fresh lemon water to the left when you walked in the front door. I’m not lying. I showed up 30 mins early and he said I could take off whenever I liked and I didn’t hit another group all day playing as a single. The course was literally amazing. I’m talking every aspect. I don’t know the owners or greenskeepers at all, but whatever they are doing isn’t being matched around locally. It just isn’t. The ball washers all had water. The bathrooms on course are nicer than any other public courses and I can say that confidently. The fairways had stripes in the grass you guys. It blows my mind more of people aren’t talking about this place. The greens didn’t have a shred of pine straw or sticks and it was windy today. The greens were immaculate and I don’t say that lightly. Extremely consistent yet on the slower side which I prefer. Cherokee runs greens are always top tier but they’re always lightning fast. I’m trying to break 90 here and being able to stop an approach shot that I thinned a little is actually a possibility on the heron bay greens. This entire week has been rainy so I’m sure that contributed to the speed but regardless the greens were so nice to play on. It was cart path only and the course was so nice I’d make an extra trip out to the fairway to put sand in my divots because I felt guilty if I didn’t. Didn’t meet a single angry homeowner all day. They waved and smiled. It blows my mind people buy a house in a golf course and hate golfers but we all experience it almost every round. Not at heron bay. Every year for the past three years my family has a Myrtle beach golf trip where we play four different courses in four days which is generally pricy but I’d put heron bay on par with the majority of those, if not better. This place is the best kept secret in newton / Henry county.
