What people say about (Olde Hickory Golf and Country Club)

Vic Ferreira

Great course beautifully laid out, course very well maintained, excellent practice facility. Greens perfect and run true. If I could only hit a put!! Need permission or sponsorship by member to play.

Rich Meska

Good shape, nice fairways and greens. You must like a Pete Dye design or you will be disappointed in the layout. Not real long with several tees to pick from. Nice facility and staff.

I played Olde Hickory Golf Club in Fort Myers, FL this week using my SWF PGA GolfPass ($50). It’s a private club only open to the public between May-October using the GolfPass. My overall experience was very good as this course is both scenic and playable for mid-to-high handicappers. The course is in very good shape (May 24, 2022) but I am concerned about the use of artificial green dye used to keep the grass looking healthy (see pics). The dye got all over my shoes even though I drove a golf cart. The fairways are generous and while each hole has some challenges I found the course to be very playable and fair. It’s designed by Ron Garl who is a Floridian and prodigious designer of courses all over the world. The greens are in great shape, very large and roll pure. The homes and condos that line this course aren’t spectacular or very nice in some cases but the landscaping and course design overcome any shortfalls around it. There’s a lot of water on this course but it’s only risky on a few holes off the tee. The carts have a great GPS system and are very comfortable. The men’s locker room has poker tables and all the grooming accoutrements that you would expect in a country club. The bar in the clubhouse is nice, very large with scenic views of the driving range (which is also a great feature. Range balls included with your greens fees). Don’t wear your hat in the bar! I recommend this course if you’re able to get on. It lacks the untouched, natural Florida biosphere that I love to see on courses like Corkscrew or Raptor Bay (soon to be renamed Salt Leaf). But I still really enjoyed this course and hope to play it again.
