Green Lakes Golf Course

I have never played here before, but a bunch of friends had an outing. The course was in great shape, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. Nice way to spend some time with friends. Definitely a challenge from the back tees.

Always wanted to golf here since it was designed by Robert Trent Jones. I stopped on my way from Albany to Rochester but was told I could not play today as they were beginning league play. However the manager overheard the conversation and kindly intervened and said if I could get on the first T-box in five minutes I could play. Well it was a lovely course, well manicured, soft sand in the traps and the greens were in very good condition. I had one of the nicest golf experiences. I will return with friends! ⛳️

This facility is not welcoming to beginners or women. On multiple occasions, I’ve accompanied friends here and experienced staff targeting women in our group for “slow play,” even when we were simply taking a few swings or putts. Meanwhile, male players who struggled far more were allowed to play without any issue. We consistently kept up with the pace of play. The group behind us rarely had to wait, and when they did, it was only because they optimistically waited for us to clear the green — convinced they could reach it — only to shank their shots moments later. Yet somehow, it was always the women getting scolded. Unfortunately, this course seems more interested in enforcing arbitrary double standards than fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all golfers. My own experience: two attempts to play resulted in being scolded both times by a ranger. That kind of track record speaks for itself. I would strongly recommend women, beginners, or anyone seeking a positive golf experience to explore more inclusive and respectful facilities elsewhere.
