What people say about (The General Golf Course)

Matt Herston

We're playing this out of season and it was still really fun. Lots of elevation. I'm from Florida and none of the courses I've played in this area are easy layouts. And this is no different. The Gold(senior) tees are 6000 yards. Gorgeous layout in the hills of North Alabama. Even though the tee boxes were a little beat up as long as you're on the fairway theres grass to hit off of. If you're off the fairway you may have to move your ball as there are a lot of dead areas that are dirt. In season this maybe be a different scenario. All of the greens were in great shape. These are a little slower than everything else I played in the area. Around a 9 on a stimpmeter. Still very fun and challenging to putt on as there is lots of undulation. Clubhouse is pretty basic. More of your hotdog/sandwich variety of choice. They do have beer which is a thing because this county is a dry county. There was only one person working the clubhouse and food while we there so it may be hard to get someone to answer the phone. Overall I will definitely be back. Hopefully when its in season.

Very nice course. Lots of elevation changes. Wildlife present. Quiet and serene.

The General Golf Course Rogersville, Alabama 35652 We played The General for the first time during a recent visit to Joe Wheeler State Park and must offer, the course played beautifully, in great shape for the month of October and the Clubhouse folks were friendly and personable. Our golfing experience was top notch! Overall, the fairways are in great shape - not the most challenging, but will keep you interested. Not much water or water features, fairways are somewhat straight with a little wiggling and curves to keep you from just hitting all out and following your ball. The Tee Boxes are set appropriately; with the red markers allowing for a good advantage. Boxes are in good shape - level and well maintained. Greens were slow but in good shape. Fairway grass was green and well manicured. With long fairways, the low handicap players would be reaching the greens in two - the remaining golfers in three or more. The second cut is decent and low enough that you won’t be losing balls. The most challenging part of the course for us was the approach shots to the green - the layouts made it tough, but the greens are of size and slow enough the ball does stick. When we played their was sod along much of the cart paths - did not inter with play, but instead showed course improvements and the hard work by the grounds maintenance Team. Water jugs and ball washers were filled, trash cans emptied - very clean. Club house Team were friendly, hot dogs, beverages and resale items were stocked. We would definitely recommend playing the course and whenever we are back in the Huntsville area we will play again.
