Heritage Park Disc Golf Course

This is a nice course. I liked it better than I expected to based on other reviews I read. The course essentially runs around the outer edge of a sports complex. Since it runs counterclockwise, a number of the holes seem to favor pulling right to avoid going back into the field. On a few holes, I was a little nervous about the nearby road or letting other patrons of the park pass before I threw. That would make me more anxious on a busier day. It's a good assortment of holes with some decent technical challenges mixed in. There aren't a lot of holes where you can open up a long drive, and on the same note there are a few short open air holes that are prime for aces. Not that I got an ace. 😞 Overall, I think it's a nice local park course. Nothing so brutal that beginners can't enjoy it, but not so simple that advanced players can't have a good time. I should note that the GPS navigation to the start of the course is a bit off. It took me to a parking lot near the middle of the course, and I assumed that was the best place to park even though the pin had actually been 50 yd further down the road. Once I finished playing the course I realized that the best starting spot is at a parking lot around the corner somewhere around quarter to half a mile away from where I parked. Signage on the course is decent. There are a few signs missing, but overall not too hard to navigate, especially with the uDisc app. If you are using that app, you may find it tricky to select which course you are marking. I thought I had the right one for about half the course, but then it started getting pretty far off.

Park course with a variety of hole type. The first 4 are very short, wooded shots of about 200 feet or less. The course then opens up to a grassy field with a few long range shots alongside a creek and highway. From there you progress along the creek and get thrown in and out of the woods once more. The course finishes with 3 unobstructed shots over grass and finally 2 wooded shots reminiscent of the first 4. Overall the course flows well and is enjoyable to play. The main problem is some of the holes are too short or lack enough obstacles to make them intriguing. Particularly the stretches between 1-4 and 15-18 leave something to be desired. Conversely between holes 5-13 the course was great! That stretch forces you to pick a line off the teebox and commit to it. I think a beginner would love this course. It's not going to punish someone too much for bad throws and the variety of shots will keep them entertained. If you want a great challenge you won't find it here, but if you're looking for an enjoyable afternoon in the park, look no further.

Cullman's Heritage is wonderfully daunting (imho) ... filled with 500' 'fairways', wood-traps, quags, highways and byways, playgrounds, habitat, rivers, fences, people, pets, and tree-obstacles. I suspect it is 2-3 miles. It may cramp your style ... yet inspire your courage to great heights. Just don't quit ... and you will have a story to tell. I got my first birdie here after being destroyed the first 9 holes.
