What people say about (Preston Golf & Country Club)

James Patterson

Played Preston GC on the nice, quiet, peaceful Sunday morning of 19 September 2021, my 127th different course in a little over 2 years. I loved the cute quack-crew greeting (ducks)! Nicona in the pro shop was a sweet lady - very accommodating and personable! I also really loved the serenity of the front 9. This section is only developed along two fairways (#2 & 3), and very well maintained with beautiful tree-lined fairways and immaculate greens. The par 3 #6 and #9 are especially scenic holes with beautiful lakes and landscape design. Hats off to the superintendent! The back 9 is more developed, with a fun challenging layout on the par 5 #10 which forces one to decide whether to lay up to avoid the creek or go for the green on their second shot. The par 3 #13 was kind of funky and needs reworked - it feels like one is teeing off from one of the homes' backyard - houses on that hole were built too close to the entire length of the hole, IMO. I loved the scenic value of the dogleg-left par 4 #16 with the pretty lake and backdrop of mountains lit up with alpenglow in the rising sun. Overall, a very nice round - and I'd love to play it again on another quiet morning when I return to Utah. And next time, I'll bring some duck food :-)

I have to start with this course is absolutely beautiful and the staff has always been friendly but everytime we go here it is very very slow (45 min behind pace, three groups waiting at a tee block slow) I seen three groups of 6 people playing together in front of us which makes for a long slow game. Otherwise a great course maybe send some people on the back nine to start or don't let groups of 6 play together.

Short review: Best customer service I’ve ever received in my 25 years of living. Long review (part 2/2): (Continued from the other review) But instead, about an hour later, Eric gives me a call saying he found my wedge & that he will ship it to me. Elated, I give my sincerest thanks & offer to send him money for the postage. After all, shipping a golf club from Idaho to Chicago can’t be cheap. But he insists that he won’t accept any payment from me for mailing the club. Fast forward to sometime later, I’m back in Chicago & I receive a long rectangular-shaped package in the mail. Opening it up, I see my wedge that I had lost halfway across the country. I couldn’t believe it! But the wedge wasn’t exactly the way I had left it. Eric also had my club regripped. Let me repeat that, because I can’t really believe it either. ERIC HAD THE CLUB REGRIPPED! FOR FREE! Are you kidding me? What Eric did for me was beyond anything I have personally experienced in my life. Not only did he spend his valuable time & efforts looking for a golf wedge that was lost at no fault to his or his golf course’s own, not only did he use his hard-earned money to mail it halfway across the country, but he also regripped the dang thing? Absolutely crazy! And the cherry on top for me is that he had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO GAIN for all these acts of kindness. He knew I’d never come back to the golf course to confirm that he had not found the club or repay his kindness by giving him my business. He did all this only because he genuinely wanted to help a complete stranger. In my life, I have never experienced kindness like this that is not only above & beyond what is normal or expected, but above & beyond what is even conceivable. Eric’s kindness is truly inspiring. His actions make me want to pay it forward by assisting strangers in my own life any way I can, no matter how inconvenient it may be to me, because it wouldn’t hold a candle to what Eric did for me. I previously mentioned I thought I would never be back in Preston or the state of Idaho to potentially retrieve my golf wedge. But Eric has made Preston Golf Club, the town of Preston ID & the entire state of Idaho the home of kindness, thoughtfulness & genuinity as well as a destination I would not hesitate to return to. Eric (as well as the pro shop worker & anyone else that may have had a hand in assisting), thank you so, so much for all that you’ve done for me. You truly are inspiring.
