As is everything else here in San Antonio, the Buckhorn is dry, dry. There is water in the ponds, but no grass in the fairways (hitting off mostly hard pan if lucky enoughto stayvon fairway). Greens are fast unless going against the grain or uphill. Beware, there is no price break for late afternoon play. Even though they know there's no way to get in more than 9 holes, the price was the same as if playing 18. On the plus side, everyone that we came in contact with was very friendly. Carts are newer and have a couple additional holders for "stuff." They seem to sit slightly higher, so easy in and out. We had a slight problem with ours on hole 4 or 5 in that it wouldn't stop beeping even on the cart path alongside the green. So shut it off til we all putted out. Worked fine for rest of front 9. Would recommend playing here, maybe once, but they need to rethink their fees for late afternoons. Also, little to no shade for summertime play. It's going to be hot and very dry.
Best public course in Hill Country Texas. It's not just the fabulous maintenance of the greens and fairways, but the friendly, considerate, welcoming staff. Thanks folks for taking such great care of us and our course! Art Humphries Boerne TX
For the price, this course is unbeatable. Plays easy and the holes are comfortable and scenic. Attitude is great among staff. My go-to 'Hometown' course
