Nice course. Good staff. Only gripe would be: If I rip a drive and split the fairway with it, I should be able to find it. Three times I hit straight drives and couldn't find my ball. Please. Cut. Your. Fairways. Other than adding a driving range and the aforementioned fairway issues, a nice course.
My experience here has been hit and miss over the years. Sometimes, the course is in great shape; while other times it seems to be lacking routine maintenance. Fairway and rough upkeep varies; again, sometimes cut short and allowing for a lot of rollout, and other times, tall grass and full of weeds. The greens are usually good. However, in the dry parts of the year, they can get hard and ridiculously fast, especially considering some of the comical slopes (hole #4!). Similarly, the layout is hit and miss. The front nine is quite pleasant, with several nice holes. The back nine, especially after 13, feels forced and awkward, trapped between houses and the freeway. It's a good value even with these issues. I've never found it to be too busy, either.
Let me start by saying I love this course. I've played it since the early 2000's. But recently the love I feel from it is one of nostalgia. It plays very poorly now. You could hit a fairway and either lose your ball to Daisies, and even if you didn't lose it, the fairways are like thick thick rough. The only saving grace is their greens. In all honesty, if it wasn't the only 18 hole course in Douglas county open after Bar Run had a few holes wash away, it wouldn't be my home course anymore. Bar Run is similar in price but an exponentially nicer course. I hate saying it like this, but oak hills plays like a $25 per 18 hole round now. And since theyve sold the driving range for low income housing, I am forced to give the course a 1 out of 5. I hate seeing it in this condition, a shade of its former self. Please make it great again because I still love it.
