My husband played 9 holes while we were in the area. They had had a tournament the weekend before and the greens played fast. Also since it is near a reservoir the mosquitoes were really bad! The course was nice though and well laid out.
Overall his is a nice course with very fast greens. A number of the fairways are sparse and dead in places but I suspect that’s due to the large amount of rain they’ve had this year. The greens where very fast but the grass was thin in places. This, again, is probably due to the rain. All the holes are pretty straightforward so it doesn’t require a great deal of local knowledge.
Lakeside is highly recommended if you’re looking for an enjoyable, no‑frills Midwest golf experience with a mix of challenge, scenic openness, and solid course condition, especially given the wind intrigue on nine holes. It offers good value, a smooth pace, and a pleasant overall experience. I’ll be back. • Bring a wind jacket—wind off the cornfields can be bracing. • Tee off mid‑morning to enjoy staff availability and optimal pace.
