What people say about (The Loop)

Michael Whitt

My FAVORITE part of this place was the Loop. Doak evokes “love him or hate him” vibes and I LOVE him! Love his creativity, ingenuity and how he sees the game and no where else is his brilliance on display more than the loop. I played the red on Friday night and the black routing on Saturday morning and it’s mind blowing. Not to mention the courses are fantastic with fun, amazing holes.

The concept is very unique! I stayed to play it both ways and was surprised playing it the second round. Playing it the first day on the Black, then playing the Red. It is pretty impressive how you do not see the same course, literally, walking it the opposite direction I barely recognized the course.

This was our fourth (and 5th) stop on our golf trip from Canada to Michigan. What an amazing, Golf course. I think the starter's name was Jay and he was just awesome! Very happy to tell us about the course and was very excited that we hadn't experienced it before. The loop is a links style course that has very fast greens with fairways that allow your ball to travel. There was very little rough and most of the area surrounding the fairways was sort of a fescue/ desert with tall grass and other smaller hazards surrounding. The greens were immaculate with very tricky contours. The bunkers were like so soft and pillowy, like no other bunker I had ever experienced before. I've had a couple of fried egg shots, but some of these were damn near over easy! Close that club face up! They had a tool hole or two where there was a cart girl with a fantastic selection! Juicy IPA for the win! The halfway house was also stocked and the PB&js were amazing! I asked if the bread was homemade and they said it wasn't, but as her as heck tasted that way! So delicious. Aside from my scorecard, it was a phenomenal round! We played the red course on the Monday (shot a 10) and then we played the Black course the following day, which was my best round. As a 20 handicap, I shot an 83 and finished my day with two birdies. The red course I played how I usually play as far as club selection was concerned, but after speaking with starter an understanding the theory of the course and the greens, made me play my round on the black a bit different. Roll the ball to the green cuz unless you stick it, she's rolling away! Shooting a really good round on a really tough course is such an amazing feeling, but aside from the result, I don't think the day could have gotten much better! I Would absolutely love to return to the forest dunes resort. If you can tuck away some golf money ($180 a round), I can assure you, it'll be the one of the best golf experiences you can have.
