Hello golf friends, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I'm not a pro nor do I play every weekend so I don't think it is fair for me to rate the course on it turf, layout or the fine items many would prefer while playing. However, I do know a great deal about customer service, amenities and basic green keeping. To be frank, this course was lacking on all fronts. The keepers were very disrespectful, many times yelling at the other groups around us. They also and drove their full size trucks on the course as standard practice - crazy. Looking to enjoy a beer - Not here, the course lost their license. Plus they don't offer water, service... Nothing. The open area and layout was nice. We had 3 carts. they were dated and ran poorly.
I moved to the area three years ago. People I talked to told me this course was not good, and shortly there after it was closed so they could resurface the greens. I read a few bad reviews after they reopened, so I avoided it. This last weekend I decided to try out the course, and was pleasantly surprised. The greens were smooth and fast, and the entire course was in great shape. The staff was friendly, and the price I paid was a great value for the quality of the experience. If you have avoided this course because of past poor experience, I would suggest giving this gem another try.
Lanier has gone through a number of changes over the years and, unfortunately, it seems to be going downhill fast. While the course itself still seems to be in decent shape, the facilities... in particular the driving range... need a lot of help. I was shocked to find knee-high weeds all over the range, weeds in the practice bunkers, and the practice putting green looked like US Open rough. Again, I've never seen it this bad here. Even if they can't afford to kill the weeds, running a lawn mower over them would at least make the place look somewhat presentable. I obviously have no insight into the finances of the course, but they must be dire. The staff is always friendly and upbeat... a positive. But the place needs a little love.
