My dad managed Royal Oak for a number of years in the 1970's. He was also golf pro at times, and when needed served as greens keeper. He built his own golf course outside of Tampa and managed many others. He was friends with the owner. What …
I love this course. The fairways are wide which gives me a chance. The reason for the two stars is because now the course is closed and non function. When it comes back (nothing but overgrown grass and weeds now) it will once again become my favorite place to play.
They were getting the place back in order but seems like the progress was halted for some reason. I don't know if they ran out of money or what but the grass looks like weeds and not what golf course grass should look like and the club part looks like it's a mess still.
Don't waste your time here, they obviously are too cheap to hire a greens keeper. The other reviews are spot on, dead spots, weeds every where. Putting is a nightmare. Go to Sherwood instead, same price but they have a greens keeper.
This was a beautiful Course in its day, unfortunately the last owners let it die. Hopefully new ownership can breath new life into a great course and a great layout for golf.
been here since 1970 have played golf
Great !!!!
Grand old Country Club along a lovely sand coast. Was Winter home to the Professional golf elite of Canada, including Hall of Famers, and the games very best American and other Canadian. Winter home to MOE NORMAN the "undisputed Greatest ball striker on the Earth". Shame to make a private retreat out of the lodge and spacious grounds larger than enough for any themed development. I shot An 81 last game Athlete that's a hard long course . Food excellent -- service was unforgettable and when you are golfing from Winnipeg - Crocodiles are a great hazard.!

What most people don't understand is that golf courses are not cash cows for the city and county to pump tax revenue out of. Golf Courses are a 100 acres of open park land, that impart between $50,000 to $500,000 in value to each of the 300 to 400 homes that surround the golf course. Royal Oak is a Dick Wilson design course. The course probably cost a $1 million to build in the early 60's. Why it was ever built in Titusville is a mystery. The course is currently struggling to stay in business, just as it was in the 1970's. Because of the unique design of this golf course, something like having a Picasso painting or a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado convertable. Many of the courses that Dick Wilson designed impart $500,000 in value to each home on the course. It is odd that Royal Oak homes were never able to command the premium that they deserved. I certainly hope the Royal Oak homeowners association rallies to aid in saving the country club. They don't build them like this one anymore. It is a classic not unlike Wingfoot in White Plains, Westchester County N.Y.. Royal Oak made it through the 1970's with help from the community, maybe the club can do it again. There is at least $15 to $20 million in home values riding on the success of Royal Oak Country Club. As for a review of playing the course, when the course is in prime condition, it is beautiful, but difficult and long. It favors good golfers.
