Used the range today. The range marker was set so far forward that it was on a slope. This makes practicing anything but side slope shots impossible and might actually be more detrimental to one's game than not practicing at all. The rest of the practice range grass was more or less healthy and grown back. Most people ignored the line marks and shot from behind the markers on cleaner level grass anyways which makes the point of moving their practice lines moot in the first place. It's an oversight, but practice lanes need to be on level surfaces. That being said, the actual range itself is all downhill which makes judging carry distances hard to tell. The store was still closed from a previous fire and the grumpy old shop keep loves to point that out any chance he gets while he sits in his plastic lawn chair out front of his "temporary" golf store trailer. I've never been to a range that considers 80 balls a large bucket of balls. The practice green was small and had 2 sticks stuck in the ground to aim at, not actual holes. Bathrooms are Port-o-potties. If you're just looking to shoot a bucket of balls and not warming up for a round go elsewhere.
I always have a good time when I play on this course. It’s super relaxed and really for people looking to play a no pressure round of golf while hanging out with your golfing buddies. There are plenty of golf courses in the area to throw hundreds of dollars down on. You get what you pay for and for $25 it’s an easy breezy good time for a couple hours. Nothing more, nothing less.
I recently played at Abbey Golf Course for the first time, and I had a great experience overall. The staff were exceptionally friendly, which made me feel welcome right from the start. The pricing was quite reasonable, especially for a Sunday, and I appreciated that there were no players behind us, allowing us to enjoy the day at our own pace. However, I did notice that the grass was quite high, making it challenging to use my irons effectively. This wasn't a major issue for me since I was there to practice and enjoy the game. Additionally, I observed a lack of well-defined sand bunkers, which may be due to recent heavy rains washing them out. On the positive side, there isn't too much water on the course, which I personally prefer. Overall, I would give Abbey Golf Course 4 stars for the friendly atmosphere, good value, and enjoyable conditions to practice, despite the minor concerns with the grass and bunkers. I'll definitely be back!
