I usually play Westwood once a year on the Tee Time Pass at either $18 or $25 depending on the time of day I play. I would not play it for full price. I was told before I paid that holes 15 and 16 were closed for mtce, and I could hit two balls on other holes on the back 9 to make up for it. I did see them working on these holes and it made sense as these holes are some of the harshest laid out holes. The pro shop is fine and the attendant was friendly. The men’s locker room seemed to be an afterthought though with the restroom some what make shift with very poor lighting. When rating a course just after opening from the winter we need to keep in mind a lot of mtce needs done to “clean up” a course. I did see workers on the course attempting this which is always a good sign. I played Westwood last year in April and it was in better shape this year in March. The greens seemed fairly smooth for this time of year. However, none of the greens were rolled or cleared of debris. Had this been done, the greens would have been good instead of just ok. The bunkers on the first few holes are being cleaned and fresh sand was added. Unfortunately, there were many bunkers after the these holes that needed a lot of attention. The cart paths in some areas are fine in other areas they are a complete hazzard. I would not even attempt to ride on them if you value your spine. Westwood played at discount this time of year is worth it. I would not pay full price until holes 15 and 16 are playable, the traps are cleaned/updated, and the greens get rolled on a regular basis. I doubt the cart paths will be repaired any time soon. P.S. Aim left of the electric tower on the blind par 3, 4th hole.
Unarguably the worst “cart paths” ever. Looked like a grenade went off on them. Sand in the bunkers was hard as a rock, nearly impossible to play out of. Course layout was as confusing as humanly possible. Half of the tee boxes were basically dirt due to the amount of swings taken from them. Minimal to no upkeep on them. Not worth the $50 green fees.
A good mix of open and challenging fairways. This course has a couple holes that are uphill with hidden pins, bunkers could be better managed for the price in my opinion and the cart path seems to get more and more non-existent as you play your round. The rough looked and played like lawn grass the hasn't been cut and grew to be 4 1/2 to 5 inches tall. It was a cool experience playing this course for the first time. I don't know if I would go out of my way to come back given the cost
