Native Oaks is a well kept San Diego course with solid practice facilities, some challenging moments on the course, and a good layout with nice views. About the practice area: on the range, each mat has its own screen with a trackman that you can log into with your trackman account. Next to that is a very nice putting green to work out your putter on. In the course: my overall impression is that the fairways were fairly wide, forgiving, and there were some challenging moments throughout. Oh the front nine, you’re are playing alongside some horse stables, around some lakes, and up alongside the highway. On the back nine, there are a lot of very nestled holes with lots of beautiful views. In general, the fairways had enough variety to where I found myself choosing between draws and fades off the tee, but they were wide enough to where you can get away with the occasional miss without your round falling apart. My only nitpick is that I was behind a group of 5, and so my round took 5 hours… and for some reason there was no beverage cart the entire round. I felt very hungry and thirsty by the end. Overall Native Oaks a nice course with nice upgraded practice facilities and it is worth checking out if you’re in north county.
Played course again on 26 April 2025. I am changing my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars from last summer. Since living in southern california, Native Oaks has been one of my top choices. For one the course is always well kept. Greens roll true, fairways well taken care of, bunkers have plenty of sand, and the course layout is challenging and fun. Secondly, the staff. Those guys and gals are warm welcoming and make you feel like family. The gentlemen in the pro shop are always nice, the starters outside have always been gentlemen to me, and the ladies at the kitchen always have a smile on their faces. The food is also great might I add. I never mind driving the 40 minutes to come play here because I know it will be well worth the drive due to the conditions of the course and the staff. This place is a hidden gem. Highly recommend this course to those visiting and those in the local area. They also do a military discount.
Trackman range which was nice. No cell service almost on the entire course. Good to be focused and in the moment but not good when I use my phone for golf GPS and score/shot tracking via app. Was very impressed and surprised how nice this course was. It’s top 3 most beautiful courses in SD. (Torrey and maderas) Lots of green trees (rare in SD) and variety, along with excellent conditions. A bit far drive for me but worth it I’d say. This course is better than arrowood imo.
