If you're not in the AF/SF and coming here for recruiting, training, or because you're an Army Vet....get your orders changed. This place is awful. The housing community is awful. There's 2 gates to get on post, but good luck using the 2nd gate without getting turned around. Want to bring your family on? Need to use the visitors center? Better have them show up early af because they close at 4 and take at least an hour to process an ID card. Oh, and they're closed on the weekends too (which makes a TON of sense). Seriously, avoid coming here if you can avoid it.
It’s like It’s own city! This place is huge.
Vandenberg Space Force Base, located on California's central coast, is a key national security asset known for its role in space launches, missile testing, and range operations. It's a sprawling installation with 35 miles of pristine coastline, encompassing over 98,000 acres, and is considered a military base in a national park setting. Vandenberg is a crucial site for placing satellites into polar orbit and supports Minuteman III missile testing. It also serves as a spaceport for civil and commercial launches, including those by NASA and SpaceX. I formally made a civilian request for the space force in 1999. It was non civilian access. I advocate for civilian military integrations.
