What people say about (Wilson & Harding Golf Courses)

Jeffrey Tobin

Fantastic municipal course!! The staff inside the pro shop was friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff was incredible, so friendly and made a great recommendation. Played Wilson Course and enjoyed it. Found it fairly wide and relatively straight forward. Greens could be challenging if they are dry, with the morning dew they were easy to putt on.

I gave the course 2 stars because Wilson has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. But that's where the praise ends. Today friends and I arrived to play 18 and were informed that the greens were under maintenance. Strike 1. They claimed a notice was listed but I refuted that. I booked on Golf Now and it most certainly did not have a notice and they normally will when notified by the corresponding course. The attendant told me I should have booked on their site. Rude. Strike 2. I asked if the course will be discounting the price since the greens are under maintenance and was told no. I said in jest, well can we get a golf ball? (A basket of loose balls were on the counter.) He said no. I said, what about a beer then. He laughed and said no to that as well. Strike 3. See the attached screenshot from Whittier Narrows Golf Course (another public course in LA county) for a look at how a golf course that is well managed handles golfers on days when greens are under maintenance. In any case, we teed off. When we arrived to our approach shots we noticed the green was not only under maintenance, it was completely covered in sand and seed. It looks like a bunker. Literally. See photos attached. Have you ever tried putting on the beach? Gimme a break guys. I have no more strikes to give. The truly sad part is that this course used to be one of the most fun tracks in LA. Located in Griffith Park and reachable easily from any part of town. Word on the street is that the Harding/Wilson Courses are some of the most lucrative public courses in Southern California. It's one of the hardest tee times to get. Where is the money going? It's certainly not on the Wilson Course. The whole thing was a disaster. Just look at the photos and see that this is not hyperbole. All 18 holes looked like this. Shame!

Decent practice area. They have a sand trap, a pitching chipping area with lots of rough and hill side to practice the short game. Three putting greens in good shape. Two tiered driving range. I have only practiced here but the course looks like it would be fun.
