I have been playing Van Buskirk since moving to Stockton almost twenty years ago, it was my favorite course for several reasons, a playable front nine and a very tough back nine, a decent sandwich in the restaurant and an ability to get on any time seven days a week. I am sad to note I have played it for the last time in its current condition. The course shows very little in the way of maintenance, the back nine has been closed for a long time with no sign it will ever reopen, as is the pro shop (one pays at the restaurant) and the food is now hit or miss with an employee who seems not to care much at all. C'mon, Mayor, this place deserves far better than this. Golfers vote I remind you.
Just a horrible experience all around. The course could definitely use some work and both the service and the food left something to be desired as well. The french fries had this weird color to them for some reason. My guess is that the oil in the deep fryer hadn't been changed in awhile. It's almost as if nobody cares anymore. It was pretty bad.
It was a fun course for the price we paid on Tee Off but you can tell it hasn't been taken care of that well. But for an amateur golfer like myself it's a good course to play at. Will visit again!
