My son really liked going to UARK for 1 year, but if you are a pre nursing student, I would heavily advise going somewhere else. On our initial visit, they told us that 50-60% of the student end up in nursing school. At Orientation, after we were committed, they lowered it to 35% get in. At family weekend, they said 25%-30% get in. January 2025 they told me 20% will get in and when my son met with his adviser, they told him only 108 of over 600 students would get in or only 18%. They simply lied to us and many other families we spoke with. They talk about how everything is for the student, yet they spent 3 times more time talking about plan B instead of plan A, like nursing. Since my son wants to be a CRNA, nursing is a requirement to get there. They told us that he should consider medical humanities instead of nursing even though he has a 3.9 in honors college for prenursing and missed a 4.0 because of an 88.4 instead of an 89.5 in one class. They are out of their minds. They admit 3 times as many students as they should and hundreds of kids will pass their course and all their tests with flying colors and deserve entrance to nursing school but will not be admitted because UARK over enrollment the number of orenursing students. They just want the money and doesn't care about the kid and that became very clear as time went on. Why go there if there is no realistic chance to get in? They told me and my son that if he didn't get in to just take the next semester off and reapply, where there might be 700 to 800 applicants for 108 students. At Baylor, OU, UMHB, TX Tech, if you pass all your classes and tests, then over 90% of those students move on to nursing school. They might only enrollment 200 prenursing students for 180 openings so yours chances are much better if you pass your course and tests. This is not about how good UARK's nursing program is, as it is no better than any of the listed schools, it is about how they systematically over enroll the number of prenursing students by a huge amount only so they can get most of those kids to change majors and not pursue their dreams. We transferred our son to one of the other schools listed above because UARK can't tell the truth about its nursing program and they know it. When brought up at family weekend with the department heads, they just deflected and suggested other majors. That is despicable.
