What people say about (Sun City South Golf Course)

John Bones

We played a Charity golf tournament today; 05/03/25. The greens were in great shape. I played here last year, and the whole course was far to wet. This year, there were just a few over watered areas. The greens are far better than GCU's greens, where I normally play, so a good job shout-out to the ground's crew.

Have played the south course quite a few times over the past year. It just seems to get worse. Fairways have very spotty grass; are bone dry in some areas and a mud bog in other spots. You shouldn’t be penalized for hitting your ball in the fairway but you’re more likely to get a better lie in the rough. Greens were in terrible shape. Seems they punched them a few weeks ago. Some have huge dirt/brown areas. Very bumpy. Several of the tee boxes are 80% dead grass. This course used to be fairly nice. Appears to be totally mismanaged. Don’t waste your money.

Sun City is Fun City Golf!! What a great local golf course. The staff was excellent, especially Joe who helped accommodate me even though I arrived late due to a delayed flight coming into Sky Harbour. The course is a good local course with the greens and fairways in GREAT conditions. I did not see any brown greens. The course itself is wide open with a lot of give for the errand shots. But the greens are slick and fast. That is what protects the score. I flew in for business meeting Monday, So I played late on Master's Sunday afternoon. I had the course to my self as everybody was watching Scottie get his 2nd green jacket. I rent their clubs, pack some of my golf balls and tee's and had an enjoyable round. The rental club were old but okay, but true once I figured out how to play the draw style irons, and fade style driver. Instead of my usual 12-16 handicap, I shot 20 over. And had a chip in birdie on 9# This is a must play course in your AZ rotation if traveling. Great as a tuneup for the other resort courses. Also the prices were fantastic. Did a GOLFNOW deal, and clubs were $14 and cart $15. That is reasonable and not gouging like some other course. Even the snack bar was reasonable. This is my type of local course. George and everybody else who help me that day. Thank you. I will be back. P S. The 2 videos are my messages back to my golfer wife who was at home since this was a business trip for me.
